
Google CEO Eric Schmidt has told the crowds at the Mobile World Congress expo that the company “certainly tried” to convince Nokia to choose Android as their smartphone OS of choice going forward. In response to the news last week at the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer would be tying itself to Microsoft’s new Windows Mobile smartphone platform for the coming years, at least so far as it’s high-end handsets go, many people had been wondering what the situation between Google and Nokia might have been. Schmidt confirmed that there certainly had been talks and that Google “would have loved” having Nokia on board. He implied that the door is still open for Nokia in the future.
