I sometimes reminisce about the heady days of home computing when I sat on the living room carpet with my ZX Spectrum for hours, days or even weeks on end, tapping out programs and visited by local electronics store on a Saturday morning to marvel at the range and diversity of the computers available. The BBC Micro, Commodore 64, Oric 1 they were all brilliant and each one was bespoke with its own unique operating system with its own unique way of working and its own unique features (who can forget the Oric 1 with it’s “explode” command. You’d never find that on a computer these days!) For years now I’ve had a PC and have been happy and content with its mediocrity. There’s nothing to set it apart from other computers and my friends can’t get all worked up about how much better their machine is than mine (except for one loony in London who still insists on using a Mac). Now I find myself wanting to buy a tablet PC and all of a sudden I’m horribly confused by the choice available to me of bespoke operating systems and new ways of working. So I thought I’d appeal to Windows 7 News readers for some help. There’s just so many tablets to choose from these days that deciding which one you really want to own can be as much of a guessing game as an informed decision. My personal reason for owning a tablet is simply to have a computing device I can use for email and a little light surfing while lounging around in front of the TV
