Windows 7 SP1 Beta Goes Public

Up until now the Windows 7 SP1 Beta has only been available to Technet or MSDN subscribers, so us common users haven’t been able to get our hands on it. Well for those of you who are early adopters and anxious to try it out, now you can. All you need is a Windows Live ID which anyone can get (if you don’t already have one) and head on over to the Microsoft Eval Center to download the beta right now.

Is the Apple “Magic Trackpad” a poor excuse for the lack of multi-touch on the Mac

Apple have today unveiled their new 2010/2011 product line-up which includes some new Macs and the “Magic Trackpad”.  This is, essentially, simply a multi-touch trackpad and asks the question why Apple are bothering. If this is a response to multi-touch support in Windows 7, something their iOS operating system has had for years now but that has still not made its way to the Mac, then it’s pretty poor. It can be argued that people won’t use multi-touch PC screens on a desktop or laptop, but that hasn’t stopped a great many companies selling reasonably sized quantities of them.  How many people I wonder have bought a separate trackpad for their PC?
